Chloe’s Tribute to her Bestie, Star

“And can it be that in a world so full and busy, the loss of one creature makes a void so wide and deep that nothing but the width and depth of eternity can fill it up”
Charles Dickens

Dearest Star

Iimage14t is just over a week since you took your journey to the Rainbow Bridge, where you will have been lovingly welcomed by my Mama @AngelKeely and all of those who went before you. You will be running and playing and behaving like a puppy again while those of us left behind must learn how to live without you … without the love that shone from your sweet face, the face that limage43ooked like a puppy right up until the end … without the warmth and serenity you radiated and which drew both people and dogs to you. You loved and you were loved, and knowing that made your life complete.

We met 3 years ago on my first trip to the Cotswolds. I was only a young pup so it was handy to have you around as an example of perfect Labrador manners. We hit it off straight away, as did our Mummies. How lucky was that!

Mstar-chloeore meetings with more pals followed for us. Shopping trips, trips to the beach and pub and, my personal favourite – the Hockings ice cream van in Devon .. paradise! And bestie, I really must apologise for the outright theft of “our” ice cream cornet on that very first visit. Who would’ve believed that I had actually been very nicely brought up? Still, I expect you are getting more ice cream than you can manage these days.

We plastar-chloe-2yed and swam and chased and dug holes in the sand on your beach in Devon. Sadly though, I never got the chance to show you my Yorkshire. But meetings with other pals in the Cotswolds and in Devon have left lasting and joyful memories. Birthdays came and went with much celebrating and eating of virtual cakes and other delicious noms. You will have such tales to tell them all up in heaven!

Tstar-chloe-3hen, when you got sick I accompanied you to see Dr Rog and comforted your Mummy whilst we waited for you to have your big operation. Hopefully I helped you both feel less scared. You amazed us all by fighting back and being well enough for us all to meet again in Devon and celebrate your life. I guarded you well on the beach lest any dog came close enough to hurt you, as did my pal Monty (whom I secretly think you took a bit of a shine to!).

The last time we met we had a picnic. You brought the sun with you as always and as our Mummies chatted we had our own conversation. You knew that your time on this earth was drawing to a close; we said our au revoirs and I made you a solemn promise.

image7Star, you were the bestest of pals. A shoulder to lean on, a fine example to look up to, a warm body to snuggle close to on those cold Cotswold evenings; you were smart, witty, loving and sociable. I hope I can grow up to be half as good a dog as you were.

Until we meet again my friend, I promise I will do my utmost to keep the promise I made to you to look after your Mummy.

I will always be your bestie. Chloe xxx
